Before you sign up
- Ask what the real commitment is: a single shift, a weekly group or a full cycle. Dropping out halfway hurts more than not starting.
- Serious organisations never charge you to volunteer locally. Programmes for people coming from abroad may charge for housing and coordination, which is different, ask what the money covers.
- Work with children, health or people in vulnerable situations usually needs an interview, training and paperwork. That is a good sign, not a hurdle.
