Found an animal? Here is the free help

Animals are not listings here, but you are not on your own either. These are the free people and places in Buenos Aires who know what to do. Use whatever helps.

  • Keep it safe, and a couple of photos help everyone
    If you can move it off the street without risk, offer water. Two or three clear photos, the corner and the time are enough for a vet, the city, the rescue groups and your neighbors to jump in.
  • Any vet reads the microchip, for free
    It takes a minute and costs nothing. If there is a chip, the clinic can reach the registered owner, which is the fastest way an animal goes home.
  • Animales BA and the 147 line
    The city keeps the lost and found list, and 147 is the free attention line if you want to report a found animal or need help because it is hurt.

  • Your neighbors are often the quickest
    The building or block WhatsApp group, the barrio Facebook groups, and a printed sign on the corner where you found it. Most animals reappear within a few blocks of home.
  • The rescue groups above
    They are usually full, so write with the photos, the location and whether you could foster for a few days. A foster home is often what unlocks their help.

If it is hurt or in danger, the nearest vet clinic comes first, before anything else.

Reporting an animal: what helps and what to keep private

A clear report helps a shelter, a vet or a neighbor find the animal faster. But some details are not needed and can put people or animals at risk. Here is what we have learned from the rescue groups above.

What to share

  • Two or three clear photos, including the whole animal and any visible sign of a collar or tag.
  • The street corner, park or nearest landmark, and the approximate time you saw it.
  • Whether the animal seemed injured, scared or friendly, and whether you could keep it safe for a few hours.
  • A way for the shelter or rescue group to reach you, like a phone number or a message here in Pásala.

What to keep private

  • Your home address is not needed. A meeting point in a public place is always enough.
  • Do not post someone else's personal details or photos of their home, even if you believe the animal is theirs.
  • Do not share a rescuer's exact fostering address. Meet to hand over the animal in a neutral, public spot.
  • Avoid posting your ID, bank details or any password. No shelter or vet needs them to help an animal.

When in doubt, send the details by private message to one shelter or rescue group first, rather than posting everything publicly. If the report is about a person who may be mistreating animals, contact Animales BA or the 147 line directly instead of confronting anyone yourself.
