A house rather than a club: art shows, music, readings, film and parties, all in one old building in Villa Crespo. It opened in 2005 and calls itself an unclassifiable place, which is about right. Good first stop if you are new in town and want to meet people without a dance floor at full volume.

A friendly video bar in Palermo Soho, open from early evening into the small hours from Wednesday to Sunday. Drinks, pizza, music videos and a crowd that goes from after work to full night out. Hours move, so check their Instagram before heading over.

Open since 1999 and still the biggest queer dance floor in the city, packed on Friday and Saturday with pop, house and electronic music across several rooms. It gets very full and very late, so bring patience for the line.

Open since 1984, right after the return of democracy, and still going. Regulars call it la catedral. The crowd is mostly men from their late thirties up, and the mood is relaxed rather than showy.

Public health in Argentina is free and does not depend on having a DNI. Testing is confidential and you do not need a doctor's order.

Free guideThe most practical trans health guide for the city, put together by AFDA with the community and the clinics themselves. It lists nine public hospitals with trans care, among them Argerich, Álvarez, Durand, Fernández, Penna, Pirovano, Ramos Mejía and Santojanni, plus seven neighborhood health centers, with hormone therapy, endocrinology, mental health, social work, speech therapy, gynecology for trans men and surgery. They ask you to confirm days and appointments before going, since these change.

Community spaceThe first trans community house in the country, on Av. Jujuy 1341 in San Cristóbal, with workshops, company and support. AFDA's guide lists it, together with Fundación Huésped, as a place where you can get rapid HIV testing, hormone care, psychology and free legal advice.

Free testingFree, confidential HIV testing at their center in Almagro, plus clear information on STIs, PrEP, sexual health and trans health. They also run their own trans resource guide.

Public health, freeThe city's own page: testing is free, confidential and does not need a doctor's order, at public hospitals and neighborhood health centers. Many places give the rapid result the same day. The page links the current list of testing centers with addresses and phones.
Ley de Identidad de Género: nuevo DNI
Legal, officialArgentina's Ley 26.743 lets you change your registered name and gender on your DNI without a court order, a diagnosis or surgery. This is the official national page with the steps and where to do it.

Education and workBorn as the first travesti and trans secondary school in the world, and now a whole network: free schooling, a job program, a library, a popular school of gender studies and cultural work, all built by and for travesti, trans and non binary people.

Every NovemberThe city's Pride march, from Plaza de Mayo to Congreso, organized every year by a coalition of groups. The official site publishes the date, the route and the demands once they are set.
